A day at our Parkinson’s Cafe

During the Summer period our doors will open on the first and third Tuesday of every month, between 1400hrs and closes at 1600hrs at the H.C.A. (Hullbridge Community Association) Pooles lane. In the winter months its will be between 1300hrs to 1500hrs.

Four people are normally in attendance, Mr Colin Rickards (chairperson), Mrs Christina Rickards (trustee & treasurer ), Miss Emma Low (trustee), and Janet Blackwell (Volunteer Support ).

We open with a warm welcome and a nice cup of tea, coffee, soft drinks and Biscuits and sometimes Cake. We talk about how we all are and if there are any problems, we will try to help to solve them and offer advise. We have people that we can turn to for medical or other problems regarding P.D.

Janet is the intelligent one as she sets the Quizzes of the day, quite often she explains the meaning of sayings (Quotes) and sometimes she has been known to recite a poem or two ( Very clever Lady).

With what goes on, 2 hours does not seem long enough, but we do seem to cram a lot in. We also try to arrange trips with Cooke’s Coaches which we have done in the past, the club has also invited Lifestyle & Mobility from Southend, along to show us some of their walkers, Electrical wheelchairs, and Mobility Scooters.

Please come along and discover how friendly we are.

Walk for Parkinson’s 2019

7th July 2019 and the weather was just right for a 2 mile walk around Hyde Hall in aid of Parkinson’s.

Setting off with my Grand daughter Chanel (who stepped in at the last minute as a replacement for my wife Christina) our walk started across varied terrain eventually arriving at the finishing line a good 35 minutes later to a rapturous applause ahead of all the other 2 milers, receiving our medals and some light refreshments.

We managed to raise over £300 for this wonderful cause.

Hyde Hall 2019

Hyde Hall 2019 -1Wednesday 12th June 2019 saw our Parkinson’s cafe assemble at the Hullbridge Community Centre for a trip out to Hyde Hall. Pouring with rain, we were greeted by our driver Danny before making the half hour journey to Hyde Hall.
On arrival, Holly (our tour guide) came on board to give us welcome stickers and a map of the grounds before disembarking. We then made our way to the restaurant for a welcome cup of tea before going our separate ways to investigate the wonderful scenery. (For those who could not make the hill, a buggy ride was available)
Being the month of June, the roses were in full bloom and very aromatic…the gardeners were out in force planting new saplings for the coming year and the vegetable dome was an abundance of crops nearly ready for harvest. Walking around the lakes and watching the ducks,  Hyde Hall was a place of tranquility. Despite the weather, there were plenty of huts for you to sit in and watch the world go by.
A visit to the Queen Mother’s garden and the dry oasis is a must to visit and for those who ventured further afield there was the woodland area.
Making our way back to the entrance you’ll find a big gift shop and garden centre where you could purchase plants or souvenirs.
Finally, We all met up for lunch at the spacious restaurant for reasonably priced food and refreshments before returning to the coach for our journey home.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and asked if we could arrange more trips out, which I am sure there will be in the future.
